Currently, child support is established according to standardized formula that is based upon the number of children, the highest earner's net monthly disposable income and the total net monthly disposable income of both parties. Under the formula, child support is computed according to a series of mathematical steps.

Spousal Support, on the other hand, is more of a matter of discretion and the courts are given a series of issues or facts to consider but there is no mathematical formula.
